Artist Rising: Marko Stat$

Marko Stat$ and Aced Spade are quite the pair. An MC needs a good beat smith and whenever these two get together it is dynamic. Among tracks like Locomotive and Free (Moving Forward) from Aced LP Positive Vibes Only, the two prove it again with Nobody and Back To The Basics that their creativity is limitless. Stat$ with the old school free style hip hop flow, this rising artist from Uptown, Chicago is gonna show these supposed Hip Hop and Rap artists in the mainstream how its done real soon. With lyrics of passion and action.

Vic Mensa Calls Out Police Brutality and Standing Rock

Vic Mensa has gotten a lot of attention for this song. Going to great lengths to make sure the truth is known. He has made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and performed 16 Shots with riot police geared performers. The song and video itself includes a excerpt of a police recording. Vic Mensa is becoming a voice for the unheard against the establishment going as far as comparing the battle between Dakota Access Pipeline and Native Americans on their own land to Black Lives Matters movement. This is a human vs government interest matter and must stand with eachother to fight injustice. NuWorld Kayo & theMIND Like That

Young Label from Chicago, Nuworld is growing with talent from the city. One of the many artists of the label Kayo teams up with theMIND on a smooth beat by Donato. Released in late October a music video for Like That follows just a few weeks later. Simple idea for the video produced by Cole Bennett, similar to I Wonder music video, all that as needed for a quality video is a familiar environment and some enthusiasm. Spittin verses out in a park with nature for visuals and a few time lapse edits for a good mood setting. Putting the focus on the artist and his lyrics.

KAMI & Knox Fortune

Beat Smith Knox Fortune has a good record working with dope artists from Chicago. His beats are just irresistible to the ear. So reputable artists like Chance, Towkio, Joey Purp & theMIND can count on him. Being the other half of Leather Corduroys alongside Joey Purp KAMI is no stranger to his deep nostalgic basslines. Just releasing 2 singles in recent weeks with Knox, earliest being Foundation, a heavy beat and with KAMI spittin verses raw and passionate. Home Movies goes in another direction. A bit more upbeat like you are in a retro movie anthem with slow bass and high synths. The track gets a music video setting taking place in a diner and the main character fittingly dances as if she was in a Cyndi Lauper video. Makes you feel like you are in a different era but these tracks are timeless!

Tink Opens Up Winter’s Diary

Tink may have been silent for a while but she is vocal and making her self known once more. Getting us re-acquainted with her mindset, she breaks her silence with Count It Up. Counting up her blessings and her profits over her ambitions, well deserved after spending long days and long nights workin hard doing what you love. Not long after Winters Diary 4 follows. Not a month old and over a million people played and got something unexpected! A soul embracing 15 track album that is leaving her followers inspired and empowered. It is available to stream right here.

The unexpected is somewhat consistent with an artist like Tink. Releasing music from soul she switches up genres to match vibe and her colors. Tink surprises round the Clock and she does it again. Collaborating with My Digital Enemy they create a genre bending Rap infused Bass House beat that will get your blood pumping. Not an unfamiliar genre for Tink having worked with Tazer on bass beat dubbed Wet Dollars, later to be remixed by Zeds Dead. Needless to say we are glad Tink is back and blowing our minds. Sounds like she has a lot more up her sleeves.

What So Not Jumps Genres With Divide and Conquer

What So Not continues to experiment with different sounds across the electronic music spectrum. We heard his try with a hip hop collaboration with Tkay Maidza and trap and bass sounds in his Gemini EP. Now we see more of a combination of both in recent days; This summer releasing a fair share of genre bending tracks and a music video. Emoh seems to be having fun branching out solo, directing What So Not into newer sounds with creative artists like GANZ, Baauer, Dillon Francis, George Maple, GTA and Tunji Ige to name just a few.

One of the many songs that should be in your playlist this summer, Buried is a beautiful combination of hip hop, female vocals and beat production with George Maple and Rome Fortune. You will sing your soul away among the guitar and synth. A much more ambient song compared to Feel It with GTA and Tunji, yet just as vibrant. Feel It builds with more synths on the high end with vocals quickly leading into an atmospheric drop. Have you jumpin on a cloud.

Now if you want heavy What So Not has heavy. After playing with light synths, WSN hits the studio to work on a new EP project Divide and Conquer. Just as GTA gets ready for an album release this October. Divide and Conquer the single is released following the aforementioned tracks. Not long after releasing the Gemini EP either and this guy is ready to showoff some new sounds. Getting creative on the heavy bassline on this one. A dark trap anthem is born to get a night life crowd pumped. Along with Buried, these songs set the tone for the upcoming EP, this sounds exciting.
